Monochromatic Excimer Light for the Treatment of Palmoplantar Psoriasis

Palmoplantar psoriasis (PPP) presents with typical scaly patches sometimes studded with sterile pustules. It is chronic and recalcitrant to therapy; it often causes itching, burning, painful ragades and can lead to severe disabilities (1). Some preliminary works (2-4) have established that an excimer laser-generated 308 nm UVB radiation is effective in the treatment of psoriasis. In our study, the exposure of lesional skin to a Monochromatic Excimer Light (MEL) has been found to be efficacious. MEL operates at a wavelength of 308 nm not far from 311 nm narrow-band phototherapy, a highly effective treatment (5).
